Burna Boy has made history on the UK charts with the debut of his latest release “I Told Them…” taking the Number 1 spot.

Burna Boy has made history by becoming the first international Afrobeats artist to achieve a UK Number 1 album with his latest release, I Told Them… The Official Charts Company has confirmed this exciting news. Known as Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, the Nigerian-born artist has now reached the top spot with his fifth full-length album, following the success of African Giant (19) in 2019, Twice As Tall (11) in 2020, and Love, Damini (2) in 2022, which came very close to the top.

The popularity of Afrobeats music has been rapidly expanding worldwide in recent years, influencing the UK Official Charts and shaping popular culture. Global superstars like Wizkid, Davido, and up-and-coming artist Libianca have helped propel this genre to new heights. While British talent such as J Hus has achieved chart-topping success on the Official Albums Chart, Burna Boy has become the first international Afrobeats star to make history on the UK charts.

In response to the growing interest in this musical style, the Official Charts partnered with Afro Nation in the summer of 2020 to launch the first-ever Official UK Afrobeats Chart. This chart is now aired on BBC Radio 1xtra every Sunday, hosted by the talented Eddie Kadi, who will soon be seen on Strictly Come Dancing.
